Block Therapy began from an anxiety attack I experienced more than twenty years ago. I was stressed, had chronic anxiety and was often sick. I didn’t know how to turn my system around until this one moment when I tapped into the healing power of the breath and the importance of proper alignment in the body.

1. Pain, Fear and Stress
What do these 3 things have in common? They cause you to actively hold your breath. In moments of survival this will trigger the adrenal glands to send hormones for fight or flight giving you temporary bursts of energy, however in the long term, this starves your body of the most important nutrient – oxygen.
As most people today are living with chronic stress, the implications of what this is doing to your health are drastic and need attention. Fortunately, freeing and strengthening your diaphragm provides you the oxygen your cells need to thrive. This is one of the foundations we teach you in Block Therapy.
2. Tissue Temperature
The fascia requires a certain temperature for optimal flow of oxygen and nutrients to cells, as well as the removal of waste and toxins from cells. The diaphragm is like the body’s furnace; the upper chest muscles are like a space heater. In order for there to be flow to every cell, the furnace needs to be turned on at all times.
As pain, fear and stress are so prevalent, most people have a weak diaphragm that is only partly working, if at all. This causes the muscles of the upper chest to kick in to do the breathing for you. This decrease in oxygen and cooling of the fascia causes tissue to collapse, which creates blockages for flow in the fascia. This results in cells that are starved and dirty.
Block Therapy teaches you to melt the blockages through increasing tissue temperature. This occurs through a combination of lying on the tool, the Block Buddy, and turning on the furnace.
3. Cellular Integration
Block Therapy melts the adhesions holding the cells out of alignment, feeds the cells with optimal amounts of oxygen to relieve stress and tension, and strengthens proper postural foundations to support cell alignment.
Cellular migration is the migration of cells away from their rightful place under the influence of gravity, incorrect posture and unconscious breathing over time. The further the cell is from its rightful place, the more stress it experiences.
This causes feelings of anxiety and blocks the cell’s ability to receive nutrients. It also creates a toxic and dirty environment, one that is ripe for disease to take hold.
Most people aren’t consciously aware of their posture - especially now with our dependency on technology. Without proper postural foundations, the body falls into its internal space causing compression and ballooning as well as cellular migration away from proper alignment.
We are like a building and require solid foundations to support our cells. Without this awareness, cells migrate away from their natural resting place and become stressed, anxious and sick. Block Therapy teaches you how to integrate the 3 main foundations:
- conscious breathing
- strengthening the tongue muscle to ensure you are supporting your fascia health
5. Digestion & Detoxification
Keeping your internal space available allows for the most efficient digestion, absorption and removal of waste. The more space we can provide within, the more room there is for flow; both in and out.
Practicing diaphragmatic breathing creates an internal massage for your abdominal organs causing your internal temperature to increase. Each organ needs to be a proper temperature for optimal digestion, absorption of nutrients and elimination. Toxic cells expand, partly from inflammation. This leaves the body congested and dirty. This is a body that is ripe for disease.

We hear this all the time... and ultimately you're right, it is a block made from bamboo!
It all comes down to persuasion vs force.
Block Therapy persuades your tissue to melt and release. Your bodyweight and gravity with the pressure on the Block combined with proper diaphragmatic breathing causes the fascia to release.
There are other fascia methods that are popular that come from a forceful intension. By doing so, you are tearing the fascia which creates injury. This ultimately will result in the build up of scar tissue.
