Beauty – It’s Truly in the Eye of the Beholder

Beauty is defined as the quality of a thing or person that gives deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest). This sounds like a state of being that would be desirable to be in all the time – a deep satisfaction.

When you see beauty, your heart fills with joy and excitement. This can happen when viewing a stunning sunset, when seeing a blooming flower, when taking in the still and calmness of a lake in the early morning, when seeing the innocent smile of a young child . . . and of course, when looking at an attractive man or woman. There is no shortage of beauty in the world, but, the perception of beauty is something that can change.

A beautiful person on the surface can soon appear less attractive if they bear certain qualities that are undesirable. Similarly, someone considered to be less attractive at first sight can become the most beautiful person after you get to know them deeply, as their heart, mind and soul may capture you.

There is a common saying – “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. This means that people can have different opinions of what is beautiful. But maybe it’s more than that. Maybe it also means that for some, they can see the beauty in everything because that is the perspective that they come from. Conversely, some can see the ugly in everything, because that is where they are coming from.

If beauty gives a deep satisfaction to the mind, wouldn’t it be in your best interest as the observer to choose to see beauty in everything, instead of only searching for the images that in a moment capture your delight? Wouldn’t this be something that we can train to see so to always feel that joy and excitement?

The outer world reflects our inner state of being. I have had many encounters where I have seen a movie, and someone asks my opinion about it. What I have come to understand is that my response isn’t necessarily based on the quality of the film, but more so my mood when watching it. I know this because my opinion can change if I see that same movie when in a different state of mind.

Have you noticed that some people are always radiating joy and enthusiasm, while others always seem to be caught in a cycle of despair?

Energy flows where attention goes. If you are always focused on the negatives, this is what you will see. If you choose to see the beauty in everything, then this will become more prevalent to you.

Your inner state of being is dependent on many things, but in my view, most importantly your breath. If your cells are starving, congested and ignored, this is how you will feel inside yourself. It would be hard to be in this state continuously and be able to view life from the lens of beauty – remember, the outer world reflects your inner state of being. Your body is the culmination of the quality of health of your cells. This is exciting though as it gives you the choice and the control over how you live in your body and how you relate to the world.

If your cells are looked after and given the love and care they need to thrive, then your perception of how you live in the world will follow that same energy. If your cells are cared for, you are cared for. Even if you have a loving family that dotes on you, if your cells are unhealthy, the lens through which you view the world will be from a place of lack and dis-ease.

So… in this crazy world we find ourselves, with all the stress and confusion, pollution and trauma, to know that you have control over how you perceive life, is incredibly empowering. Because not only are there stress and confusion, but there is also love and beauty in every corner. There is beauty in the patterns of everything you see in nature, even in the ugliness, if you choose to see it that way.

Considering beauty delights the mind and creates a deep feeling of satisfaction, choose to breathe and feed your cells, and choose to find the beauty on purpose. And then, notice what happens.

Caring Without Carrying

There are so many big-hearted people in my life that I see taking on other people’s burdens. I can spot them easily because I used to be one of them — the person that absorbs the problems of another. I did this in the treatment room both physically and energetically when working on bodies, as…

Fascia and Pain

Like a baby crying, pain is the cell letting you know it needs attention. It is interesting how we have been indoctrinated into beliefs that don’t serve our highest good. Pain is a great example as we have been conditioned into viewing this signal from the body as something to mask, cover up and avoid. Obviously,…

I have a mind that sees patterns. This has served me in many ways, although when it comes to sharing details, I am not the person to quote as I don’t retain them. When listening to stories, I get the gist of the conversation, but that’s about as far as it goes. I appreciate this…
