Week 1 of the 90 Day Trauma Relief Program

I am thrilled to be starting the 90 Day Block Therapy Trauma Relief Program on Monday October 10th. As gratitude is the emotion with the highest frequency, it is only fitting to begin this journey on Canadian Thanksgiving. I am so incredibly grateful for the Block Therapy community, as well as all the speakers who shared their wisdom on our Trauma Summit and who will be featured throughout this program.

This first week starts off the journey focusing on the foundation of the body, with the intention of pulling up physical trauma.

When I was 3 years old, I got a terrible burn on the arch of my foot. The night after a bonfire on the beach while camping with my family, I stepped in the ashes and landed on a hot coal. I remember the scream -- that loud shrilling sound that likely the entire campground heard, and the pain that overtook me.

I remember my Mom running to get me and carrying me over to my Dad where she placed me on his lap. He was struggling to know how to handle me as my screams were over the top. In his frustration, he yelled and handed me a chocolate bar to pacify me. I think this is where I first learned to stuff food in my mouth to offset pain.

My Mom took me to the doctor, and I was told I couldn’t walk for 2 weeks and to crawl instead. At the age of 3, I wasn’t going to have anything to do with that -- crawling seemed so childish. Whenever no one was around, I would walk on the outside of my foot to avoid the blister and the pain. I don’t know if this was the entire reason, but I became a supinator as seen in photos of me when I was young.

It’s amazing the habits that get created from avoiding pain -- especially in our early years. They become cemented in our fascia pattern and manipulate our alignment as we grow, creating deeply ingrained knots and adhesions that will affect you lifelong. You may not realize it in the moment, but these will be the events that create issues later in life.

As this was a physical event that took place in my foundation, this will be my focus for the first week. It is my intention to pull up the trauma and work further to correct the disturbances to my body that this created.

There are many layers to this, especially as it occurred when I was so young. As much as I have worked to correct my alignment issues for years, I have more work to do and know I will continue to make progress.

What are you going to focus on for this coming week? Do you remember a fall, or an accident that may have caused you to shift your gait, limp, or created pain and anguish? Use this week to clear your foundation of a physical trauma that has affected you.

To add, on Day 4, we will be featuring our interview with Dr. Eric Robins. He shares how the body becomes frozen when trauma isn’t rectified in the moment, and how that can have devastating effects on your life. The understanding of this alone will make the journey forward more complete as we move through the layers and clear out the past. Day 4 of each week is also a self-care day where you are guided to only do a gentle breathing meditation with your hands on your belly. You are also encouraged to take some time for self-care, like a hot salt bath.

I am so grateful to all of you who are showing up for this program. May you heal the past so you can live in the present and love your future!

Breathe & Believe,

Deanna

  1. Thank you Deanna. I am really looking forward to this journey, and your guidance. I will be focusing on letting go of self-blame (probably throughout the whole series), “I could have done that differently to avoid or minimize the problem”, even when I was still practically a baby!

  2. Deanna, I am blessed to have been introduced earlier this year to one of your interviews. You are the perfect example of someone who has been handed lemons in life and turned them into lemonade. Plus serving others with your gifts and talents is a cherry on top. I block daily now. It’s taken a while to see change in my belly, waistline and neck; but after a few months, I was motivated to keep going. It proves you don’t have to do strenuous exercise to realize improvements in your body image. Many thanks.
