The Challenge of the Healing Crisis with Block Therapy

“Ultimately, happiness comes down to choosing between the discomfort of becoming aware of your mental afflictions and the discomfort of being ruled by them.”
– Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche

The healing crisis is the biggest challenge for people starting block therapy. When we start to put positive energy into the body, negative energy that was trapped in the layers of fascia start to move. The body’s response to this is to “pull” out the past debris to clear the way for freedom.

The healing crisis can come in many forms.

What we need to understand is that we are going to experience the negative “stuff” on the way out, be it negative emotion or memory or by-products of function and toxins that we accumulate from our daily living. This is the challenge as it can come in many forms – skin rash, mucous production, fever-like symptoms, changes in pain, emotional outbursts and strange dreams, to name a few.

The purpose and benefit of the healing crisis

These responses breed fear in people if we don’t understand the purpose and benefit of the healing crisis. The benefits are to rid the body of the old, outdated debris to clear the way for improved range of motion, clearer thinking, emotional balance and joy. Suffering is a choice we make by fearing what the body needs in order to be healthy. Understanding that at times we will feel discomfort or pain but to not let fear take you down is the essence of the quotation by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche.

The book Buddha’s Brain by Rick Hanson, Ph.D. explains how to overcome the emotional traps of suffering. I love this book as it is directly in line with teaching people to become friends with pain. Befriending pain is what has changed every aspect of my life. To me pain is Peace Acknowledged In Nature.

  1. I have been blocking for several months now. I am really enjoying the benefits from it. I have had a few side affects, a rash and cleansing symptoms, in the last month.
