You Are Not Moving Backward, You Are Healing

There are no straight lines in nature.
There are no straight lines in nature.Nature's design is built upon the Fibonacci sequence, the spiral pattern. Energy moves as a wave when unobstructed, and when it encounters a barrier, it spirals, eventually turning into chaos. This can be seen in the flow of rivers, the way smoke leaves a pipe, and the contrails left behind by airplanes, it's everywhere. This same spiral pattern shows up in how the body moves and adjusts over time.

As we age, the body compresses under gravity's influence—not linearly, but in a forward rotational spiral toward earth. Along the way, adhesions from incorrect posture, unconscious breathing, and scar tissue from injury or surgery block the flow of energy fluids, creating congestion and chaos in the fascia.

Waste, toxins, debris and negative emotional frequencies become trapped in the layers, causing pain, aging, and dis-ease.

Understanding Healing Crises

As we age, the body compresses under gravity's influence, not in a straight line, but in a forward rotational spiral toward the earth. Along the way, patterns from posture, breathing habits, and old injuries can create tension and restriction in the fascia, adding to a sense of congestion and imbalance in the body.

Tension and restriction can build up in the layers of the body over time, contributing to stiffness, discomfort, and a general feeling of being out of balance.

Understanding the Release Process

This is what many people notice as time goes on. For those who take an active role in their own self-care, change tends to happen, but also not in a straight line.

What typically happens, and there are exceptions to every rule, is that when you engage with your fascia through consistent practice, you may notice benefits along the way: fuller breathing, more energy, a calmer state, greater comfort, and better sleep.

However, there can come a point where you've worked through enough tension that the body has more capacity to bring old patterns to the surface for release. As this comes into awareness, you may experience a range of temporary responses.

Some examples of physical responses might include skin changes, watery eyes, changes in digestion, temporary shifts in where you notice tension, or feeling warm or cold. Emotional responses can include unexpected waves of overwhelm, sadness, frustration, or memories resurfacing.

This can all sound unsettling, however, these responses tend to be temporary as your body moves through old patterns to make space for new ones.

It takes energy to move through this process, and your body is working hard on your behalf, so feelings of tiredness may show up. This is when honoring your body with sleep, rest, care, nutrients, and hydration becomes especially important.

I've worked with countless people over the years on their own self-care journeys, and I've been through plenty of these release phases myself. People often ask how long they'll last or when they'll happen, questions that are hard to answer, since there are many variables at play.

I've had experiences where discomfort lingered for years, going back to an injury I had when I was seven years old, which left a lot of scar tissue behind. When things happen when we're young, we tend to grow around that tissue rather than through it.

I've spent years working on the fascia in and around my pelvis, and I feel much more balanced now. It took time and consistency, and along the way I also noticed other shifts that surprised me. Everyone's experience and timeline will be different.

Working Through the Pain-Fear Cycle

There's a pain and fear cycle that we can get trapped in if we don't understand what's happening in the body. Understanding this process takes some of the fear out of the equation. Sensation is simply the body's way of signaling that it needs attention. When that's not understood, and there isn't a clear path forward, fear can take over and keep us stuck, creating a cycle where discomfort and fear feed off each other.

This is where community becomes essential. Sharing and learning from others creates a safe space, so fear has less room to take hold, and physical sensation can be met with curiosity and care instead of alarm.

Working through these release phases isn't always comfortable, but the reality is that everyone experiences ups and downs in their body throughout life. Choosing a self-care practice that puts you in the driver's seat gives you something concrete to lean on when these moments come up. These release phases can be a sign that you're staying engaged and consistent with your practice.
